MADE IN PORTUGAL TAKING OVER THE BRITISH MARKET

The second annual edition of Fashion SVP presents the main trends for spring/summer 2017. The event will take place in Olympia, London, from 15 to 16 November. Representing Portugal will be nine companies, part of a committee led by the Associação Selectiva Moda.

The British sourcing fair will host in its second annual edition nine Portuguese companies – Bergand by Gulbena – Confenix - Confeções, Lda - Faria da Costa – Lispaulo Cork Lda. – Marfel – Nordstark – Orchid Woman – Orfama – Vandoma –  as part of an initiative by the Associação Selectiva Moda under the From Portugal internationalisation project.

New developments in functional knitwear inserted into “fashion” models, are some of the highlights presented by Bergrand by Gulbena. «This is one of the few fairs for manufactured items, and it is a promising market that is receptive to our type of product” explained Helena Garcia. “We hope to gain new clients specialising in fitness and designer brands as well», she added.

Specialising in knitwear, Orfama will be presenting innovative raw material (shiny viscose fabrics with blends of lurex, cotton/silk, bamboo/cashmere, cotton/cashmere, wool/silk and other blends) and models with unique jacquard motifs worked with very fine threads, aimed at the mid/high-end segment. «The aim of this participation is to win new clients, as this is a strategic market with good potential for growth, therefore it makes sense for us to be present», stated António Cunha, the company's sales area manager. «The fair is oriented towards clients who fit our intended profile, i.e. those looking for products which stand out for their design and quality, and who appreciate the fact that our items are made in Portugal. We will present the new collection with the aim of offering to clients a large dose of inspiration to help them develop their own collections, which without doubt, is a factor of competitive advantage», he added.

On its part, Vandoma will be attending Fashion SVP for the third time. The leading new products for summer and winter 2017 in ties, scarves and bows will be the main highlights. «This is an important fair for Vandoma, not only because of the country where it is organised, but also due to the clients that visit this fair. We are confident about what will be our third participation!»,  mentioned Ana Sousa, the company’s manager.

In its June edition, Fashion SVP grew by more than 40%. For two days, more than 100 exhibitors presented their main new products at Olympia, London. The November edition will have around 120 exhibitors, as well as an extensive parallel programme, as part of which the “Sourcing Briefing” seminars deserve a special mention.

Lightwear will also be part of the Portuguese committee that will travel to London.

The participation of 9 Portuguese companies in another Fashion SVP event is organised by From Portugal 2015-2016, an initiative promoted by Selectiva Moda Association and by ATP – Associação Têxtil e Vestuário de Portugal (Association of Textiles and Clothing of Portugal), which aims to promote the internationalisation of Portuguese companies in the fashion area. The From Portugal 2015-2016 project is financed by Portugal 2020, under Compete 2020 - Operational Programme for Competitiveness and Internationalisation. The value of eligible support totals EUR 13,051,072.83 of which EUR 7,210,717.74 are provided by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund.
