The Medica Düsseldorf international fair, covering healthcare, opens its doors from 14 to 17 November, for an edition that will count on the presence of around four thousand exhibitors. The Portuguese colours will be represented by 4 national companies: Barcelcom – Custoitex – Fitor – MagicPharma – which form part of the committee led by Associação Selectiva Moda

The 2016 edition of the Medica Fair, in Düsseldorf, will take place from 14 to 17 November. The Portuguese committee attending the event is part of an initiative implemented by the Associação Selectiva Moda, in close collaboration with its partner CITEVE – Centro Tecnológico das Indústrias Têxtil e do Vestuário de Portugal (Technological Centre for Textile and Clothing Industries of Portugal).

“CITEVE returns to Medica, Europe’s leading fair in the healthcare sector. This is an opportunity to publicise the centre’s competencies in conceiving and developing products and processes for the healthcare sector, strongly associated with innovation”, says Cristina Castro, public relations manager at CITEVE. “CITEVE’s stand will highlight test and trial materials in the fields of textile microbiology and cytotoxicology, which are particularly important for products and medical devices or for textiles designed for the healthcare and wellness market", she adds.

At this edition, Barcelcom Têxteis, considered as one of Europe’s most innovative companies in the textile sector, will shine the spotlight on the new image of its in-house brands, BB Medical and Technosocks Medical, with a new catalogue, new packaging and some other new products in the area of graduated compression. It will present a new therapeutic line for daily use, aimed at large pharmaceutical and/or hospital distributors, a new line of anti-embolism products at the hospital level, its Pradex line for treating lymphoedema, together with the introduction of some new products, such as the new post-surgical supports and prostheses that complement this line. Of particular note are the new diabetic stockings, certified as a medical device, made of bamboo and which have been a success in Middle Eastern markets. ”Medica, in Düsseldorf, is the largest global trade fair for companies like Barcelcom Têxteis, where we can showcase our latest innovations in technical textiles and expand into new markets, primarily outside of Europe – our biggest expectation”, states Nuno Mota Soares, project & business manager.

Collove, a regular presence at this event, will showcase several products, with special emphasis on graduated compression, thermal and maternity products. “The health/wellness segment is booming around the world, which is why we are investing in following this trend. This is a fair with many buyers from around the world, which is why our expectations are high”, says Mónica Morais, the company’s development & export manager.

Specialising in orthopaedic healthcare and wellness products, Magicpharma is at Medica for its first time. Compression bands and material, support and elastic stockings, graduated compression sports socks and diabetic stockings, pregnancy line, orthopaedic, comfort and post-operative shoes, and repellent textiles are some of the products on display. “By participating in this event, Magicpharma seeks to actively publicise its product portfolio, with the aim of increasing its range of international contacts. Winning over new contacts will help us significantly increase our international turnover”, states Miguel Correia, from the company’s marketing department. Magicpharma will be bringing the following brands to the German city:WWO - World Wide Orthopedics, and Ztop - Têxteis Repelentes.

The 2015 edition of Medica featured around 4977 exhibitors in an area of 114 thousand m2 and hosted almost 130 thousand visitors. For its 2016 edition, there will be 5000 exhibitors, coming from 70 countries and distributed over 17 halls.

The participation of 4 Portuguese companies in another edition of Medica is organised by From Portugal 2015-2016, an initiative promoted by the Associação Selectiva Moda and by ATP – Associação Têxtil e Vestuário de Portugal (Association of Textiles and Clothing of Portugal), which aims to promote the internationalisation of Portuguese companies in the fashion area.
