The Portuguese delegation attending ISPO will be welcoming trade show visitors and exhibitors, by organising a Cocktail Party, which is scheduled to take place at the Portuguese Sport Village (Stand C2-333/335), on the 28 January at 5.30 pm. Visitors will be able to view the latest innovations made-in Portugal brought by the residents of the “Sport Textile Village” while enjoying a refreshing Port Wine Tonic, steeped in Portuguese tradition.

ISPO is the world's biggest sports trade show which takes place in Munich every year and has become de rigueur for Portuguese textile companies whose target is this market niche. This edition, which runs from 26 - 29 January, is no exception and twelve Portuguese companies will be attending the trade show - A. Sampaio & Filhos, Brandbias, Dune Bleue, Fitexar, Fiorima, Heliotêxtil, LMA, Malhas CEF, O Segredo do Mar, P&R Têxteis, Sonicarla and Therapeutic Textiles Barcelcom Têxteis.

Dune Bleue, which is making its debut at the Munich trade show is in positive spirits and has good expectations. «Expectations are high, this is an excellent trade show and we are confident that we will attract new clients», says Rosa Maria, company manager.

Sonicarla is also making its first appearance at ISPO. «The choice of this trade show was based on previous participation with clients and partners and our perception of its size and global projection, as well as the fact that Technical Sportswear is our core business», explains Pedro Silva, Managing Director of the company. A collection where design and innovation are highlighted will be showcased. «We are going to present a collection which stems from the performance vs design combination, the concept of which is inspired by nanofibers and natural and recycled fibres. Besides performance and comfort, they have therapeutic functionalities while practising sport, for example those that contain amino acids, which help to rejuvenate and hydrate the skin», he adds.

Under the SPORT TEXTILE VILLAGE FROM PORTUGAL concept, developed by Associação Selectiva Moda in partnership with CITEVE, the Portuguese companies comprising the FROM PORTUGAL committee will occupy around 170 m2 and showcase innovative products, from knits and technical fabrics, seamless underwear, sports socks, transfers and elastics, top level sportswear and casual wear, among others. This is a leading trade show in the Outdoor segment and a must-attend event on the world trade fair calendar.

«According to the European Outdoor Group (EOG), the European outdoor product industry represents over 10 billion Euros, where technical clothing and sportswear make up around 53% of this figure. Other important segments such as footwear (26%), backpacks, sleeping bags, tents and mountaineering equipment incorporate considerable amounts of highly technical, high performance textile products. ISPO is the best trade fair to approach this market, which gathers around 81,000 visitors from 109 countries every year. This year Portuguese attendance at the 2014 edition doubles the exhibition area from the last edition (2013) and includes an excellent sample of the best the Portuguese industry has to offer to this market. A good example of this is the fact that the two companies present at the FROM PORTUGAL exhibition stand (A.SAMPAIO and LMA) won awards for several products at ISPO TEXTRENDS FORUM, an initiative that aims to highlight the most technical and innovative fabrics, knits and accessories at the trade show», explains Hélder Rosendo, Deputy General Manager of Citeve. The Portuguese committee is leaving for Munich with good prospects and positive expectations. «The twelve companies that will be exhibiting in the FROM PORTUGAL area during ISPO 2014 with CITEVE, have high expectations for this edition of the trade show and seek once again to strengthen the national offer in this important segment of technical and functional textiles», he adds.

After the success of the first edition, the 2nd edition of ISPO Textrends returns to Munich, a unique world platform which selects the most recent developments in fabrics, knits and accessories used in sportswear, where innovation made-in Portugal will be in the spotlight. For the second year running, Portugal succeeded in getting products selected for the platform: this year LMA is in the TOP 5, Top 10 and Selection and A. Sampaio & Filhos, is in the Top 10 and Selection.

The participation of Portuguese companies in ISPO is an initiative promoted by Associação Selectiva Moda, with the support of EU funds (NSRF), within the From Portugal project, and is part of a series of more than 65 international activities planned for 2014, covering the entire textile and fashion sector, spread over four continents - Europe, Asia, Africa and America - with a total investment of 9 million Euros.
