PORTUGUESE DESIGN SHINES IN PARIS

Ecologic materials, surprising designs and even the traditional “Portuguese cobblestone” are part of the Portuguese proposals exhibiting at Maison & Objet, where five companies are showing the best of the “made in Portugal” for the house.

Home Concept, Lona, Têxteis Íris, Darono and Vianatece are the Portuguese brands that visitors of Maison & Objet cannot lose sight. Inarguable quality with the “made in Portugal” label, noble materials and a design at the forefront of fashion trends are part of the add-value of these exhibitors, renowned names for international retailers.

Distinguished representatives of the best made in Portugal, these exhibitors integrate characteristic elements of the Portuguese culture, revisited to adapt to the taste of the most sophisticated consumers. It’s the case of Vianatece, which proposes the “Portuguese Cobblestone” rug. «In this edition we are highlighting the rugs with sublimation printings. It’s completely different from what our clients usually find. And certainly it will be a success», says a confident Sérgio Peixoto, director of the company that has the “tartufo” rugs as its bestseller.

Using a traditional fabric, the brand Lona shows at Maison & Objet several seasonal products, having as inspiration summer, the sun, the fresh air and the beach. «These elements recreate the surroundings in which our collection of stripes and vibrant colours best fits», justifies marketing director Alexandra França. «In the spotlight, we’re presenting a selection of our collection directed to men», she adds. Already a regular in this trade fair, Lona wants to boost its presence on the international markets in both hemispheres with this new attendance in Paris. «This trade fair allows a world exposure, for a direct appreciation of a high quality product and 100% made in Portugal, with ancestral and traditional characteristics, adapted to the modern life», she states.

Darono, on its side, is in this Parisian showcase for the second time and wants to capitalize on the contacts that it made in the previous edition, showing an eclectic assortment of rugs, puffs, benches, chairs and curtains that include the designs of its new collection. «The inspiration sources are the same, within the wild and natural environment that we can find in the most exotic places in the world. We’re still giving attention the environmental issues and, therefore, using our technical textile, which is a reusable material and stands out on its own», unveils the designer Catarina Carvalho. «Furthermore, we want Darono to be noticed by the vivid colours and uncommon shapes», she underlines.

The Portuguese “house” in Paris is also dressed with the excellence of Home Concept’s bed linen and the refined table towels of Têxteis Íris.

The participation of these Portuguese companies at Maison & Objet, which takes place January 24th - 28th, is an initiative promoted by Associação Selectiva Moda with the support of European funds (Qren), under the project From Portugal. This project includes more than 65 international actions planned for 2014, which cover the entire textile and fashion chain, divided by four continents – Europe, Asia, Africa and America – with a total investment of EUR 9 million.
