The international security, protection and military industries will meet in Paris-Nord Villepinte, from November 19th to 22nd, for another edition of Milipol, the sector’s leading French fair – and one of the largest in the world. The Portuguese colours will be represented by a group of Portuguese textile companies, determined to demonstrate the best of what is made in Portugal in the technical textiles’ field.

A.Sampaio, Axfilia, Latino and Lavoro make up the From Portugal delegation, which will be exhibiting for the first time at the French fair that happens only every two years. The Portuguese premiere symbolizes the establishment of a closer relationship between the Portuguese industry and the international markets, in a sector that is increasingly strategic for the Portuguese textile industry.

More than 30 thousand visitors are expected in Paris, from all over the world, especially from the French-speaking countries and the various associated geographies. At the fair will be presented the latest novelties in terms of defence and security technologies, and Portugal seeks to stand out in the area of technical textiles and protective clothing.

An example is Axfilia, which will present at the fair a wide range of knitwear for military and protective forces clothing. The company from Barcelos counts among its clients with the French civil protection and the police forces of Switzerland and the Netherlands, allowing it to build a specialized catalogue with tailor made solutions. “We develop very different articles, from socks to underwear, that adapt to the needs of each military force and protect professionals, even under extreme conditions,” explains Maria José Machado, the company's CEO.

A.Sampaio will also present at Milipol several novelties, especially from its Protection + range. “It’s a line made of functional knits that have multi-risk protection, such as flame retardant, anti-mosquitoes or electrostatic protection”, explains João Mendes, administrator of the Santo Tirso company, who already has meetings scheduled with different clients. “It will be an opportunity to meet with our customers. In this area, the main market is the European one, although we have also meetings scheduled with clients from other continents”, he adds.

At the stand of the professional footwear manufacturer Lavoro, the main focus will be placed on boots for the Armed Forces. “We export footwear for all over the world, and recently we had a project in collaboration with the Portuguese army: we were responsible for producing a new official boot, which is already being used in missions in Iraq and Afghanistan,” says Rui da Silva, the company’s Product Manager. Having produced several versions of the Portuguese boot - suitable for different scenarios, depending on the weather conditions - Lavoro expects to find at Milipol new partners for similar projects.

The Portuguese companies participation in Milipol is an initiative of Selectiva Moda and ATP - Textile and Clothing Association of Portugal, which aims to promote the internationalization of Portuguese fashion companies. The project “From Portugal” is co-financed by Portugal 2020, under Compete 2020 - Operational Program for Competitiveness and Internationalization, with an eligible support amount of €12,118,285.17, of which €6,695,352.55 comes through the European Regional Development Fund.
