From Portugal in the mood of Las Vegas

Due to its size and characteristics, the US market is always an added value in the client portfolio. Therefore, a delegation of seven From Portugal companies is heading to Las Vegas from the 13th to the 15th of February. Wonder Raw, Calvi, Brito & Miranda, and Barata Garcia perform at Sourcing at Magic; Vales e Vilas and Red House will be at Project Las Vegas, and SMF returns to Magic.

Wonder Raw presents its business model for the first time, consisting of five products (t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, pants, and shorts) fully customizable "from the color to the prints, embroidery, labels and packaging", informs the CEO Luís Oliveira. The company also stands out for allowing a minimum of 50 pieces, thus favoring small brands. “The minimum of 50 pieces per model, design, and color actually facilitates the budget for new brands and eventually also the launch of mini collections or capsule collections”, explains. “For the USA, we have some pre-made contacts. We think it is a strong market with a lot of potential for our concept, especially the North American market”, says Luís Oliveira.

Vales e Vilas also has good expectations for the debut: “We are going to present our autumn-winter 2023 collection, which stands out for the design and quality of the pieces, with handpicked fabrics”, says CEO Carla Macedo. The company has a growing interest in the American market but still has little expression. “If everything goes as planned, we will be back in August”, shares the manager, believing that results appear only with a consistent presence at fairs.

“We started from a low base, but we are showing good growth”, confirms João Ramos, commercial director of SMF, who repeats his participation. “In 2021, we started exporting to the US, and we soon had a lot of orders, despite being small. In 2022 we grew 50%. We are at a great level, and we managed to get some important accounts. We held the New York fair in September last year, and the collection sold well”, contextualizes. “It is important to invest. So customers get to know us directly and see the brand's potential. At the end of last year, we got an agent who already has several meetings scheduled for the week”, adds João Ramos. As for the offer, they will be with their Spring-Summer 2023 collection.

The participation of Portuguese SME companies in Las Vegas is an initiative of Selectiva Moda and ATP – Portuguese Textile and Clothing Association, which aims to promote the internationalization of Portuguese companies in the Textile sector. This fair is in the “From Portugal” project, within the scope of the application submitted to the joint projects for the Internationalization of Portugal 2030.
