SUSTAINABILITY DOMINATES IN THE PRESENTATION FROM PORTUGAL IN MUNICH

Focused on sustainability and innovation, Bold Design Studio, Fashion Details, Fitecom, J.Areal, JOF, Lemar, MMRA, Sanmartin, TMG Textiles, Troficolor, Lima e Companhia, Top Trends, Marjocri, SM Senra, and Cityberia set out to conquer the Munich Fabric Start. Accompanying the From Portugal delegation will also be the companies Paulo de Oliveira and Somelos. The fair takes place on the 24th and 26th of January at the MOC Munich building.

In absolute debut at the event is Bold Design, which is happy “to be the first textile design company to represent Portugal in the Design Studio sector of this fair”, shares Jorge Ballester, co-founder, and commercial director. “Although more than 25% of our sales are for export, this is the beginning of our internationalization process and officially our first international fair”, he reinforces with enthusiasm. In Munich, they will be showing their creativity through unique hand-painted drawings. “We will present the designs from our collection on a printed poster and in our software. This way, we can visualize colors and correct scale, and any of our drawings is applied to the intended model. All this makes it possible not to make unnecessary stoke-offs, thus saving raw material, transport, and time”, he explains.

Also participating for the first time is JOF. The main intention is to promote the company and its products to all European geographies. “JOF's main focus is the production of outer labels, for jeans and clothing in general”, explains Rui Pedro Freitas, commercial, adding that they will be in the Bluezone of Munich Fabric Start. “At this fair, we will present our entire collection, starting with genuine leather and synthetic labels. However, in recent years we have made huge developments in our collection of sustainable plant-based labels. The washable jacron collection is a very versatile cellulosic-based material that is economical, sustainable, vegan, and allows thousands of diverse combinations”, details Rui Pedro Freitas. “Nowadays, we also have many synthetic leather options whose composition has a high percentage of plant biomass, such as corn, apple, bamboo, and cork”, he concludes.

Excited about the return, Fashion Details says that this fair is aligned with its ambition to “increase its presence in the European market”. It is also an “excellent opportunity to reconnect with clients from previous editions”, says João Coutinho, CEO, and co-founder of the company. “Although we have been away for the last two years, the relationships maintained with customers that we met in 2018 and 2019 showed that it would be worth coming back.” To make this edition a success, Fashion Details is committed to differentiation and sustainability: “we are going to present new products made with natural materials, such as wood, mother-of-pearl, and raffia”, exemplifies João Coutinho. They also carry a digital catalog, which has more than 20,000 articles. “It will allow our customers to browse and select any accessory more easily. It also allows the creation of albums to reference at any time and in any place”, he deepens.

Focused on the consolidation of the German market and surrounding markets, Top Trends repeats its presence at Munich Fabric Start. “The German market is one of Top Trends' main markets. The markets of Austria, the Netherlands, and Belgium have less expression but we want to increase in turnover”, contextualizes Daniel Simões, general manager. Top Trends will bet on natural and sustainable raw materials such as Lyocell Tencel, Viscose Ecovero, and organic cotton to conquer visitors. “We will show how it is possible to develop quality products with a design using raw materials considered dead stock”, says Daniel.

As for Lemar, the commitment to organic products remains: “In addition to our best-seller items produced from the reuse of plastic waste collected in the oceans and landfills, we will present qualities woven with cutting-edge technology threads made from raw materials and organic raw materials”, explains José António Ferreira, manager of the German market. Despite the climate of uncertainty, Lemar is optimistic about the fair and is betting on innovation as a strategic 'weapon'.

SM Senra is also attentive to current challenges. Therefore, the company has invested in new equipment and certification, reflecting on the products they will present. “In the last four years, SM Senra had an increase in sales volume of around 20%, which allowed it to invest in new equipment, photovoltaic panels, and certification. This effort is reflected in the products due to the quality of the products and raw materials. We supply medium-high range fashion brands, and we hope that this participation will bring together regular and new customers, as well as get to know the stakeholders more deeply”, summarizes Sílvia Senra, manager.

Happy with its central location at the fair, MMRA is optimistic for yet another participation in the Munich Fabric Start. “We will be located in a place with more visibility and circulation. As such, we think we will have more visitors and, with that, more business opportunities”, says Patrícia Silva, export sales. For this edition, the offer by the company from Vila Nova de Famalicão includes “knitwear with recycled cupro, textile paper, banana and pineapple, organic cotton and recycled polyester”. “In addition, we also bet on cupro, linen, and hemp compositions”, notes Patrícia Silva.

Aimed at the private label, Majorcri focus on offering customization to Munich Fabric Start visitors. “We will show our production capacity. We will display different structures, sets, types of yarn, and details customizable by customers”, says Joana Moura, commercial manager. In terms of sustainability, they will take recycled cotton and certified products (GOTS and GRS). But the concern with sustainability is not limited to the environmental dimension. Joana Moura recalls that "there is also a concern of the company with the economy and local development, hence favoring local partners".

Focusing on recycling, Fitecom leaves for Munich to consolidate the German and Dutch markets, “which are of great importance for the company”, says CEO João Carvalho. “We will be presenting the spring-summer 2024 collection, with special attention to recycled material, a strong intensity of linen and elastic in the weave”, he reveals.

Also presenting its SS24 collection, Troficolor intends with this presence to “transmit diversity and timelessness”, says Daniel Azevedo, export sales manager. “We seek to breathe new life into timeless fabrics from previous collections. We want to make fashion with history, recreate existing bases creatively and sustainably”, he shares, encouraging reuse. “For this season, we highlight the range of Tencel articles, light and fluid, with excellent thermal regulation capacity and our linen/hemp articles, which come from nature, are fresh and versatile. Moreover, ECRU fabrics, ready-to-use fabrics in natural color without resorting to dyeing processes”, expand the export sales manager. They also have a line of padded items in various formats and jacquard look items with designs that satisfy different styles.

Finally, TMG Textiles says it has high expectations for the fair, one of the main meeting points with your customers. “We feel a growing interest in fixing the supply network in Europe, to the detriment of Asia”, he comments. The SS24 collection continues the development and innovation from the latest editions, namely new fibers, structures, and finishes. “We can highlight the investment made in hemp and linen, in new regenerated cellulosic fibers (new combinations with lyocell, seacell, and fruit fiber), and in functional technical fibers (thermoregulation, moisture management, antibacterial, microcirculation)", says Alexandra Ferreira, key account manager.
