Portuguese textiles present in Dusseldorf new technologies for the Health sector

Textiles play a key role in the future of medicine and health care. This is the message that the Portuguese industry will take to Dusseldorf, from November 18th to 21st, where a delegation of Portuguese companies is going to participate in the Medica Trade Fair, the sector’s most important trade show.

Increasingly innovative and technological, the Portuguese textiles are today present in virtually all areas of activity. Health and hospital treatments are no exception, and from November 18th to 21st, a panel of Portuguese companies will exhibit their latest novelties at Medica Trade Fair, the sector’s largest trade show.

In the Dusseldorf congress center, the From Portugal delegation will have a prominent presence, made up by the companies Barcelcom, Oasipor, Trotinete and Wise HS, accompanied by Hydrustent, Nunex and Raclac. Like in previous editions, Portugal will also present an innovation showcase, put together by CITEVE, with a selection of medical devices from several companies.

With thousands of visitors every year, Medica Trade Fair is a privileged stage for the Portuguese companies to attract the international market’s attention, and to contact buyers from large institutions.

“It’s an opportunity for us to introduce some health-specific novelties, and to strengthen business relationships,” says Matilde Vasconcelos, CEO and founder of Trotinete, which owns the brand Trot, specialized in hospital and clinical workwear. In Dusseldorf, the company will present a new range of clothing with a fresh design. The aim is to increase sales to foreign markets such as France and Spain.

Barcelcom will also be presenting several novelties. In addition to Electrosocks - innovative socks with electro-stimulation that speeds up the recovery from muscle fatigue – the company from Barcelos will also present, for the first time, a new line of therapeutic socks, called Medical Pro. “They are knitted microfibre socks that, through graduated compression, helps to combat venous medical conditions”, explains Nuno Mota Soares, the company’s Project Manager.

Oasipor is also preparing to disclose some big news. A specialist in disposable medical devices, the company will present a new medical garment dispensing machine with consumption and expense control. “Waste is a very serious problem in hospitals and this machine controls the consumption through a personal number, a fingerprint or an RFID reader”, says José Ribeiro, the company’s CEO.

The Portuguese companies participation in Medica Trade Fair is an initiative of Selectiva Moda and ATP - Textile and Clothing Association of Portugal, which aims to promote the internationalization of Portuguese fashion companies. The project “From Portugal” is co-financed by Portugal 2020, under Compete 2020 - Operational Program for Competitiveness and Internationalization, with an eligible support amount of €12,118,285.17, of which €6,695,352.55 comes through the European Regional Development Fund.
