It’s with an entourage determined to break ground and open new horizons that Portugal will be present at the next edition of Mare di Moda, one of the main international fairs in the swimwear and beachwear department. Over the course of three days, from November 5th to 7th, the Portuguese companies promise to present many new features, taking advantage of Portugal's strong and historical connection to the sea.

East Ocean, Lemar and Luipex are the companies that will be present at Cannes with the support Associação Selectiva Moda’s From Portugal project. Throughout the event, the three Portuguese representatives will have the opportunity to contact thousands of international buyers, not only from major European markets, but also from Asia and North America.

“This is the sector’s main fair in Europe, so we have high expectations”, explains Eduardo Freitas, representative of Luipex, a Guimarães-based textile company that besides making beachwear for other brands, also has its own insignia, Areia Lusitana. At the fair, the goal is to reach new markets: “We expect to find buyers from the Nordic markets, from the Netherlands and also from France and Germany”, says the company representative, who will present a new collection of swimwear for man, woman and child.

At the East Ocean stand, the main goal is to attract the attention of international brands. “We are specialists in swimming trunks, and we will present a collection that shows all of our technical skills in that department,” said José Machado, the company CEO. Attending the fair for the third time, the businessman expects to find customers from various countries. “The fair is held in Cannes, but it has more Italians present. Nonetheless, I also hope to find visitors from several other countries that we want to do business with, namely the United States,” he says.

Lemar has been present in several editions of Mare di Moda and, as in previous years, presents once more a vast catalog of novelties, in terms of materials, colors and patterns. With a strong focus on fabrics for the beachwear sector, the company’s stand will anticipate the main trends for the 2020 summer.

The Portuguese companies participation in Mare di Moda is an initiative of Selectiva Moda and ATP - Textile and Clothing Association of Portugal, which aims to promote the internationalization of Portuguese fashion companies. The project “From Portugal” is co-financed by Portugal 2020, under Compete 2020 - Operational Program for Competitiveness and Internationalization, with an eligible support amount of €12,118,285.17, of which €6,695,352.55 comes through the European Regional Development Fund.
