Portuguese brands take their new winter collections to Paris

The Portuguese clothing brands aren’t afraid to shine the big international stages and will be present in Paris, between January 18th and 21st, at the Who's Next and SIL fairs. The purpose is to present their new 2020 Autumn/Winter collections and to increase the sales volume to foreign markets.

Paris, forever fashion’s international capital, was chosen by a group of Portuguese brands to launch their new Autumn/Winter collections. In the city, from January 18th to 21st, two fashion fairs will take place simultaneously: the Who's Next, directed at women's fashion, and SIL - Salon International de la Lingerie, focused on underwear (and that will only begin January 19th).

Part of the Associação Selectiva Moda´s "From Portugal" project, the two fairs will have a strong Portuguese representation, in yet another internationalization effort for the fashion and clothing industry. Concreto, Cristina Barros, Kalisson / Bagoraz / Le Cabestan, Maloka, Luís Buchinho and Maloka / Paul Brial  make up the Portuguese delegation in "Who's Next", while Iora Lingerie and Cisne Branco will mark their presence at SIL.

"Paris is still fashion’s epicentre and attracts a lot of international customers" sums up Luís Buchinho, fashion designer, who will be present at the fair for the 13th time. In this edition, his brand will present a winter collection made by Trench-Coats, Jackets, Coats, Jumpers, Knits and accessories. Over the last few years, the designer has managed to internationalize his brand, taking his products to markets such as the United States, the Middle East and the major Asian capitals.

"We have high expectations because this is a fair where we always establish many contacts with customers and agents" explains Felicidade Carvalho, Faroma's commercial representative, owner of the brands Maloka and Paul Brial. Originally from Barcelos, the company has been able to make its brands known abroad, especially in the French market.

At SIL's, Cisne Branco is participating for the third time in the event, and the experience “has been positive. We have been increasing our sales and customers" explains Pedro Marques Pereira, the company’s Export & Sales Manager. In this year’s edition, the company from Vila Nova de Famalicão will present a collection focused on the polar fleece items, having in mind the 2020s cold months.

Iora Lingerie also hopes to attract attention with its new robes, pyjamas and nightgowns collection, more sophisticated and designed from new raw materials such as mercerized cotton. "We have been participating in this fair for 14 years now and it’s always busy. We receive many European customers, but also customers from other markets such as Mexico, Lebanon and Kuwait, "said Cristina Flores, the company's general director.

The Portuguese fashion brand “Lion of Porches” will also be exhibiting a new collection at the show.

The Portuguese companies participation in Who’s Next is an initiative of Selectiva Moda and ATP - Textile and Clothing Association of Portugal, which aims to promote the internationalization of Portuguese fashion companies. The project “From Portugal” is co-financed by Portugal 2020, under Compete 2020 - Operational Program for Competitiveness and Internationalization, with an eligible support amount of €12,118,285.17, of which €6,695,352.55 comes through the European Regional Development Fund.
