TEXTILES "FROM PORTUGAL" WITH A STRONG PRESENCE IN LONDON

The Portuguese delegation at the international fashion fair Fashion SVP London counts with the participation of several Portuguese companies, in a clear demonstration of the Portuguese national production strength. For the Portuguese businessmen, this fair represents one more opportunity to strengthen their position in the UK and European markets.

During 2 days, Fashion SVP will bring to London buyers from all over the world looking for new products and new business opportunities. Among the more than 120 exhibitors present, the Portuguese delegation counts with the participation of several companies, in a clear demonstration of the Portuguese textile industry’s energy and vitality.

In addition to the promotion of the Portuguese brands, this fair is especially interesting for companies which seek to assert themselves in the Private Label market. My Shirt, attending the event for the second consecutive year, is one of those cases. Specialized in shirts and blouses, the company seeks to build new partnerships in London by promoting their digital print and denim collection. "Our collection is the result of our passion for the art of manufacturing high quality clothing", says Gil Ferreira, the company’s international relations manager.

To reach the Private Label market is also one of the main goals of Miguel Oliveira, CEO of Confenix. "We are looking for good customers from the UK, but also from France and Italy, costumers who are interested in Homewear and Streetwear", explains the businessman, who brings to London a large supply of circular knits for pyjamas, robes, training suits and sportswear.

Also placing a strong bet in sportswear is Bergand By Gulbena, who has been participating in Fashion SVP since 2015. "We continue to bet on this fair because it has been growing and we have registered an increase of contacts from year to year", says Helena Garcia, the company’s Commercial Director.

Lima & Companhia is another one of the national names present at Fashion SVP. The company, which has 40 years of experience in the production of clothing and knitwear production, has recently made restructures to the industrial unit processes with the purpose of increasing the company’s productive capacity. Márcia Cortinhas, commercial director, is now looking for new clients to help keeping the company’s growth: "We believe in our value and we hope to attract new private label projects from England but also from other markets”.

In the lingerie and tights department, Custoitex, also a regular at Fashion SVP, leaves to London with a new collection and with high hopes of increasing its presence in the English market, known for being difficult to external producers. "We are going to bet mainly on strong colours and new pattern," says Mónica Morais, the company's marketing director.

Also in the lingerie sector is Intecol, which in spite of having its own brand - Lady Suzy -, is going to present itself in London as a private label supplier of socks and tights. "Traditionally, the UK market is where all the major international fashion brands look for suppliers" explains Célia Macedo, the company’s CCO.

In London, the Portuguese delegation will find the British market to be very specific. Margaret Oliveira, the commercial manager for the English market in Triwool, describes the UK as "a demanding market, with already quite ingrained traditions, that it’s even more difficult now under the Brexit’s shadow". Fernanda Valente, IslandCosmos’ Export Sales Manager, points out that the British market "reacts very fast and seeks immediate answers". However, both companies make positive balances of their past participations.

Nelson Salgado, from Wonder Routine’s commercial department, chooses to emphasize the potential of the British market: "The United Kingdom is one of the countries with the largest volume of apparel business, so it becomes an attractive market for those who work in this industry". For the second time at this fair, Wonder Routine hopes to surpass "last edition excellent results" by placing a strong bet on baby and children's clothing.

Also with a positive experience at Fashion SVP is Confecções Lança. Luís Pereira, commercial manager for the English market and the company’s representative, claims to have a great experience with the fair: "We always gain new customers, which makes the English market a very important market for us".

Hoping to have a similar experience is the Portuguese brand Trot & Trotinete, marking its presence for the first time at Fashion SVP. "We believe that the UK market can be a great enhancer of our international expansion" explains Paulo Pereira, the brand’s International Sales Manager, who has clear expectations of finding new business opportunities at Fashion SVP.

Also exhibiting Portuguese companies: Dielmar, Orfama and Tiva.

The Portuguese companies participation at Fashion SVP is an initiative of Selectiva Moda and ATP - Textile and Clothing Association of Portugal, which aims to promote the internationalization of Portuguese fashion companies. The project “From Portugal” is co-financed by Portugal 2020, under Compete 2020 - Operational Program for Competitiveness and Internationalization, with an eligible support amount of € 12,118,285.17, of which € 6,695,352.55 comes through the European Regional Development Fund.
