FROM PORTUGAL GOES TO LONDON

The first month of 2018 will witness the 1st edition of the year, of the London Textile Fair, which will take place on 10 and 11 January, at the Business Design Centre. The Portuguese delegation there is made up of 13 Portuguese companies, 9 of which are being supported by the Selectiva Moda Association, as part of the From Portugal globalisation project.

Britain’s London Textile Fair has come to strengthen its position in the international arena and has established its importance, currently seen as a momentous event for the entire textile industry. Portugal is represented by a delegation consisting of 9 companies - 6 Dias – A Têxtil Serzedelo – Albano Morgado – Eurobotónia – Fábrica de Tecidos Vilarinho – Lemar – QuickCode – MMRA –Troficolor – with the support of the Selectiva Moda Association.

Attending for the 4th consecutive time, 6 Dias Têxteis Internacionais will be presenting its new collection for Spring/Summer 2019 for women, men and children. A selection of prints and colours based on the SS19 surveys of trends, using materials based on the demand specific to the season (meshes, organzas, lace and embroidery). Lara Braga, the company’s international sales manager, stresses this market’s importance in the brand’s exports: “The British market was our starting point for boosting exports, due to its geographical proximity and the flexibility in terms of response and communications. Here we have made excellent contacts with potential clients, who are already contributing to our recognition in other markets”.
Having participated seven times in this event, Quickcode seeks to “consolidate previously established relationships, while also creating new business contacts. This is a market that has always favoured us, and in which we will continue to invest”, says the company’s spokesperson.

Specialising in denim, Troficolor is participating for the 7th time at this London fair, in the belief that this is a very important market for developing the company’s globalisation strategy. «The British market is very relevant and has a strong connection to Portugal, where several internationally recognised brands are established and operate. It is also the “cradle” of many new brands, and so it is very important that we are well installed in this market. Our main objectives are to increase, strengthen and solidify our presence and relations with the United Kingdom”, emphasises Fátima Azevedo, export sales of the brand.On display will be the new Spring/Summer 2019 collection, where denims of different weights and compositions, Red Selvedge Denims, Flax, Lyocell and others will be presented.

In its last edition, this London-based event had 460 exhibitors, in 4 exhibition halls with around 5500 visitors during the two days of the fair.

4 other Portuguese companies will also exhibit at this fair: Anbievolution, Brito & MirandaGierlings Velpor and Riopele.

The participation of these 9 Portuguese companies in The London Textile Fair is an initiative promoted by Selectiva Moda and ATP - Associação Têxtil e Vestuário de Portugal (Association of Textiles and Clothing of Portugal), which aims to promote the internationalisation of Portuguese companies in the fashion area. The From Portugal project is co-financed by Portugal 2020, under Compete 2020 - Operational Programme for Competitiveness and Internationalisation. The value of eligible support totals EUR 12,118,285.17, of which EUR 6,695,352.55 is provided by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund.
