PORTUGAL ON TOP OF INNOVATION

A jacket with thermal control, high tech knits, recyclable canvas, breathable membranes and yarns with moisture management or thermoregulation are some of the smart textiles “made in Portugal” not to be missed in this Techtextil edition.

The biggest Portuguese delegation ever at Techtextil, with 16 exhibitors, shows in Frankfurt its latest high innovations for sectors as different as construction, security or even health.

Active Space Technologies, for instance, presents the Gathergy, a jacket with active thermal control that, according to COO Dina Gaspar, has «the ability of body warming and cooling integrated in the apparel, feed by a battery. Besides that, it also incorporates solar panels to increase the autonomy of the system and it includes an automatic function mode».

Fitor’s specialty, on its side, are polyester yarns with high tech functionalities for several market niches, namely with «thermoregulation, moisture management, antibacterial, oil repellent and other» properties, enumerates António Silva Pereira, Fitor’s CEO. On the other side, Cordex proposes «high tenacity multifilament’s polypropylene fibres and yarns for application on the safety, construction and cordage industry, polypropylene raffia for application on geotextiles and Cordsteel to cement’s reinforcement», indicates Nuno Oliveira, company’s sales manager.

Foot by Foot has also invested in state-of-the-art technology that allows it to offer innovative woven and knitted fabrics for apparel with functional properties such as «impermeability, breathability, anti-static, flame resistance and chemical protection», reveals António Pereira, Foot by Foot’s managing partner. At Gulbena, knits with Thermocool Fresh functional yarns and Shoeller’s Nanosphere and Cold Black finishing are the great novelties, adding to knits with Coolmax and Coolmax Fresh and to functional finishing such as 3XDRY. «We are also having some novelties in the flame retardant’s area», adds Leonor Carvalho, company’s commercial manager.

Specialized in lamination and multifunctional coatings for several sectors – home textiles, footwear, sportswear, construction, among others – Coltec bets, for this Techtextil, on the «conjugation of the application of new materials and functional finishing for specific market sectors», indicates Francisco Fernandes, I&D developer, whereas at Endutex Revestimentos the spotlight is on a special coating for publicity canvas which allows that, «at the end of the lifecycle, this product might be completely recycled and used again», explains Carlos Magalhães, company’s export manager.
